Music Director

JOHN WILLIAMS

Our very talented Music Director is JOHN WILLIAMS who has a long history with the Kentones. 

He was introduced to Barbershop singing in 2009 when he joined our "Come and Sing" course and, over the years, has been involved in many  talented Barbershop quartets, to name a few, Barcode, Malevox, Setting Sons, Powerhouse, High Mileage, etc. 

Setting Sons is a top Barbershop quartet who were invited to compete at the international Barbershop competition in San Antonio in January 2025 and finished a very respectable joint 12th amongst a field of 27 quartets, mainly US quartets, with a high score of 72.4.  Powerhouse is a mixed quartet of 2 very talented couples, Simon & Mary McGraw and John & Rae Williams and they are consistent finalists and winners in many competitions in England and Ireland.  John has also attended numerous advanced courses on Barbershop singing and technique and directing Barbershop choirs, 

John joined us in 2022 as our Music Director and we have performed very well at the BABS Conventions in 2023, 2024 and 2025 and we are preparing for the 2026 Convention in Harrogate where we will celebrate 50 years of BABS membership.  John is energetic, passionate and committed to Barbershop singing and his patience in helping us improve our singing, resonance and harmony is well appreciated by everyone.

With Rae Williams joining the Board of BABS, it is not surprising to see how the Williams team are absolutely passionate about Barbershop singing and their enthusiasm can be very infectious and it does encourage us to perform better too!
